While less than a five hour flight from the northeastern United States, Iceland can seem like another planet. The country offers a wealth of interesting sights and enjoyable activities.
Among the island’s spectacular sights are glaciers, a diverse collection of waterfalls, and natural hot springs. For travelers who prefer to enjoy the beautiful scenery through immersing themselves in it, there are plenty of options. Some of the most popular ones are fishing, horseback riding, hiking, whale-watching and white-water rafting.
Located just south of the Arctic Circle, Iceland is one of the most active volcanic regions in the world. Thanks to the warm North Atlantic Current, Iceland enjoys a warmer climate than most places of similar latitude. In fact, winter in Reykjavik, Iceland experiences warmer temperatures on average than in either Boston or Chicago.
While Iceland’s culture is very modern in many ways, Icelanders take great pride in their cultural heritage. Viking age Iceland is well documented in the Icelandic Sagas, which are required reading for all Icelandic students. Read more about Iceland's unique history here --
